Joey Dies

INSTRUCTOR
Joey Dies is a versatile musician and educator based in the Boston area. Trained classically, Joey received a Bachelor’s of Music from Stetson University, learning and performing the major symphonic and solo repertoire for trombone. While in school for performance, he was also honing his teaching, studying private lesson pedagogy, small and large ensemble conducting, and elementary brass methods, all while maintaining a small private studio. Following completion of his Bachelor’s degree, Joey decided to pursue his love of Jazz, attending the New England Conservatory of Music graduating with a Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance.
Joey is actively performing in a wide variety of genres, including jazz, rock, pop, salsa, merengue, and classical. He has performed with such artists as Maria Schneider, Arturo O’Farrill, Dave Holland, Somi Kakoma, Mehmet Ali Sanlikol, and Linda Cole. At NEC, Joey studied under Marshall Gilkes of the Maria Schneider Orchestra for both instrumental technique and jazz improvisation. His past teachers include Conrad Herwig, Michael Dease, David Schmidt, John McNeil, Frank Carlberg and Jason Palmer.
