Richard Stanmeyer



Richard Stanmeyer is an award-winning trumpet player, pianist, and trombone player based in Boston, MA. He has performed with renowned artists such as Rutshelle Guillaume and Belle & Sebastian, and he has performed at venues including Symphony Hall and the Newport Jazz Festival.

His mentors include many of the who’s-who from the jazz and classical genres, including Ben Wright (2nd trumpet of the BSO), acclaimed pianist and composer Frank Carlberg, and GRAMMY award-winning trumpet player Nicholas Payton. He is a 2024 graduate from the New England Conservatory, where he studied on a full-tuition Helena Foundation Presidential Scholarship for his Master of Music in Jazz Studies.

Favorite music to listen to: I love to listen to artists such as Bill Evans, Hank Mobley, and Freddie Hubbard, as well as artists from the electronic art space, such as A.G. Cook and Levi. 

Favorite music to perform: Jazz, Classical, and Afro-Latin music

Something most people don’t know about you: I am a huge fan of basketball, which became a passion of mine earlier this year. Looking forward to seeing the Celtics in the 2024 NBA finals!

Hobbies/Interests: Basketball and architecture

Born/Grew Up: I was born in Hong Kong and hen I was 2 years old, I moved to live in Bali, Indonesia. I then moved to the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts where I fell in love with music because of organizations such as Tanglewood, and lived there for about 10 years. In September of 2018 I moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music and work as a freelance musician. Boston has been my home since then!

Practice Tips: Recording yourself perform pieces and/or exercises is incredibly helpful for you to develop your technique and voice. Also, a great practice tip is to attend a live concert! You would be surprised how inspired you can be to work passionately on music just from listening to exceptional live music.
