Soso Gelocani

INSTRUCTOR

Joseph ‘Soso’ Gelovani is a bass player and a composer. In 2017 He graduated from Berklee College of Music where he had been mentored by George Garzone, Hal Crook, John Patitucci, Gary Willis, and Victor Bailey among others. At the college he has been on the Dean’s list five times and has received the Most Improved Bassist Award.

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Soso was surrounded by the rich Georgian folk music since childhood. Singing these polyphonic songs was his first engagement with performance. Then Gelovani studied classical piano during 8 years. At the age of 18 he was already gigging with local bands as a bass player.

Soso Gelovani is a versatile musician and has performed or recorded with such artists as Omar Hakim, George Garzone, Kenny Werner, Hugo Fattoruso, Beka Gochiashvili, Domi Degalle, The Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra and SALIO. He has played throughout his native Georgia and also has performed in London, Vienna, Boston and New York.

Currently he is studying for a master’s degree at the Longy School of Music.
